The 6 Biggest Skin-Care Mistakes

I'd like to quote Yahoo! on this article I just read now.

If there's one thing I stress to my patients, it's that great skin doesn't require spending a fortune on some "miracle cream" made from rare seaweed from the Arctic Circle! It's all about simple good habits. But let's approach those habits from the opposite direction: What are the most damaging bad habits that I see time and time again?

1. Using a cleanser with harsh detergents: Many people assume that the suds of their vigorously foaming cleanser are a good sign -- surely they'll leave skin extra clean. Unfortunately, copious suds are generally a sign that your cleanser contains a harsh detergent, like lauryl sulfate, that strips skin of vital lipids. (And don't get me started on bar soap -- that is always a no-no.) Instead, look for cleansers that contain fatty acids and will actually fortify your skin, like Dove's ProAge products, or even simple cold cream. If you have particularly dry skin, I recommend cleansing oils, which remove dirt and makeup without disturbing your skin's natural protective barrier.

2. Not using a retinoid: Retinol, a form of vitamin A, is the only topical ingredient proven not only to prevent lines and wrinkles but to minimize the ones you already have. Past the age of 30, I recommend seeing a dermatologist for a higher-concentration prescription retinoid (like Retin-A, Differin, or Tazorac, for example), but there are also many great over-the-counter creams that contain lower concentrations of retinol. I like Roc Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Night Cream, and SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0.

3. Spending too much on skin care: Splurging on the beautiful packaging and luxurious scents of pricey boutique skin care lines can feel wonderfully pampering -- provided you know that it's absolutely not necessary for great skin. In fact, many of my favorite products are made by drugstore brands, because those companies have the large budgets for top-notch research and development. If you have to choose, put your money toward that prescription retinoid, and buy the rest of your regimen at the drugstore.

4. Getting facials: Yes, that's right -- you can strike facials from your skin-care budget and actually be doing your skin a favor! Studies show that as many as 80% of people break out after a facial. Aestheticians often don't know which products are right for the skin of each client, and may use ingredients that can worsen acne, or essential oils that tend to irritate sensitive skin. Even if you don't break out, there are really no long-term benefits to facials.

5. Washing your face at the wrong time: Always wash your face after you rinse out your hair products and conditioner in the shower, never before. Many conditioners contain pore-clogging isopropyl myristate and other hair products often contain coconut oil -- both are common acne-causing ingredients that you don't want to leave on your skin.

6. Not using sunscreen every day: Not just for your trip to the beach. Not just during the long summer days. Every day. Yes, it's important to be even more vigilant if you plan to spend lots of time in direct sunlight. But incidental sun exposure typically accounts for more of our lifetime exposure to ultraviolet rays than those days at the beach. Walking to and from your car, dashing out of the office for a sandwich, or sitting outside for a few minutes adds up -- make sure you're covered with at least SPF 15, every day.

Wishing you great skin!

eyeko item of the week

Eyeko Tinted Cream

Price:

5GBP (almost $8.00) FREE SHIPPING
Product description:

For radiant skin and a sun kissed glow try NEW Eyeko 3-in-1 Tinted Cream. Treat skin to the same luxuriously whipped texture made with super hydrating Jojoba boosted with antioxidants Vitamins A & E plus Vitamin C for a luminous finish as our No.1 bestseller Eyeko Cream.

Eyeko says: "It's the effortless way to get flawless skin. Dip in and pat on for a subtle glow with light reflecting particles that create instant radiance".

Contains no petrochemicals.

MY VERDICT:

Eyeko Cream & Eyeko Tinted Cream is comparable to The Body Shop's Glow enhancer. I am a big fan of TBS Glow Enhancer. I love the effect it gives my skin. It's been a while since I used the product and having to meet Eyeko is like meeting an old friend, but on a more affordable price.

TBS Glow Enhancer- $14.00 (Plus S&H)

Eyeko Tinted Cream- 5GBP ($8.00) FREE SHIPPING Plus free gift when E123 code is entered.

They have the same effect on me, glowing sparkling healthy looking skin PLUS the Vitamin C that I am craving for right now. I badly need this vitamin on my skin since pigmentation is rapidly showing on my skin lately. Eyeko Tinted Cream is both beautiful and beneficial at the same time. I will definitely wear this on my everyday make up.

The only con that I have is the packaging. It's packed in a tub and bringing it in your purse is definitely a no-no. I keep mine in a small sample jar and throw it in my make-up kit.

holiday blues

For some odd reasons I always get depressed on this time of the year. Even before when I was still in the Philippines, everytime Christmas time comes I just indulge myself with pillows and blankies and sleep my day off.
Now that I am here in the States, I thought it would be better. Since snow, santa claus, endless shopping is just here around me I thought I'd be happier. I was wrong!!
I'm bitten!!! by the holiday blues!! it's killing me!!!!!!!!

Aside from that gift, I have something for you. I ordered some stuffs from my friend and it arrived already. Hopefully I might be able to drop by the post office tomorrow morning and send it to your address.
You don't know who you are huh? I badly wanna scream your name and tell you that "I hope you like what I got ya"
Whoever you are, send me an email if you got the gift already. Or I might yell at the retailer whom I ordered it from.

Peace & Carrots,

Secret Santa Kristine

FUJIFILM FINEPIX S2000HD

Last night snow finally dropped here in NJ. Got the chance to play with my new toy and sizzle it up with Photoshop. :)
This is the view from the bathroom's window. Right infront of our apartment is a hospital's ER. How cool is that?! I was rushed one time there. No driving of car needed. lol..

Brush review: Chisel Fluff/Pointed Crease Duet

Oh my gosh! I've been dreaming of creating looks like what I did earlier. I love the effects this brush gave me. I got this as a gift from Elizabeth on the "secret santa" L started and honestly, the brush is amaaaaaazing!
For less than $5.00, it will give you a million dollar eyes. Totally worth it girls, TOTALLY WORTH IT! :) Here are the pictures:

MAC Samples

I am a mineral make up fan. I love the silky smooth effect it gives my skin. It even covers my freckles which are showing really really baaad! Now the problem is, I am running out of it already and I think its time for me to go grab my MAC now!
I went to this retail store in willowbrook mall and I never shop for make up at mac because I find it so intimidating approaching make up consultants from there. But this girl Justine helped me find my foundation shade (NC30) and even threw me some samples. I think it was a pleasant experience for me to shop at MAC store. I'm going back next week to get some more of the good stuff.
I never thought MAC has samples to give out. I courageously asked Justine if she could help me find solution to my puffy eyes and she gave me an enormous amount of this eye cream. She said it'll last me a month. :) GREAAAAT! She even gave me a sample of their moisturizer. Delissshh!

last minute gift idea

Finally, I got my hubby his Christmas gift already. I customized his oakley shades to his favorite football team, NYJets. I think it's a brilliant idea to customize your oakley.
It's for last minute holiday gifts. They ship for free and they do it on a 2 day shipping via UPS. I just hope we get this before Christmas, or if not, before 2009 comes. HA!

Secret Santa!!

Thanks Elizabeth for this wonderful gift. Now for my pick, I hope you got your package already. I'm so worried it might got lost in the mail or something.. :-S
I so much love the brushes you sent me. CS even threw in some pigments..

aaaaaah.. credits to L for this wonderful idea! :)

I feel bad for him.

I think this is f*ckinnnnn' insane. We all know that we have a "dumb prez" but nobody has the right to do this at him. It's terribly wrong. I am mad at Phil's prez but I know the fact that I wont throw my shoes at her.. especially if it's a choo or a blahnik! lol..

lemme hear your manly thoughts..

We're off to watch the bout between Oscar dela Hoya and Manny Pacquiao. Everyone here in NJ especially in the Clifton & Passaic area are so damn crazy about this boxing event that they hold parties just to watch these two fight.

Who are you vying for in this contest? haha.. something about "not make-up"

I cooked stir-fry chicken as potluck contribution..

FUJIFILM FINEPIX S2000HD

Cyber Monday was an exciting day for me. My husband decided to drive me to Circuit City although I insisted on going to the mall. He pushed me to go to where he wants and I just obliged but I'm not really happy about it. We keep on browsing for my camera that he's gonna give me as "The Christmas Present" for weeks now. I am getting tired already because everytime I see something that I like, he'll be like.. "Uh, we'll buy it next time ok. I don't want to use my Amex on this." He said he wants to use his debit card instead. So, who am I to complain right?
I guess last Monday something miracoulously happened to him. I think his holiday spirit has grown right after the Thanksgiving day. And thank God my camera's there. So here's what he got me.

I'm like.. "Are you sure baby you're getting me this" He's like.. "You don't want it?" I was like.. "I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!!" hahahaha I was jumping like a lil girl at CC and the girl who rang us up kept on looking at me like I was a freak or something. :) Now I have a new toy to play with. Oh, I love my husband.. :) And oh yeah.. he also used his amex. Though it's not a mastercard that he used, my reaction at CC was PRICELESS.

long overdue review

Hey girls I'm blogging again. I know it's been a while since my last post. I'm doing a review on Eyeko's eye shadow palettes, particularly: SEXY EYES & COOL EYES. I got these two pretty palettes a couple of days ago and my review on them are long overdue. So ladies, here it is now.
By the way Eyeko is dubbed as the cutest cosmetic line in London. And indeed they are. Just the packaging alone melts my heart. Lol.
Anyhoo, their palette comes with 5 shades that blends well with each other from the base, contour, upto the highlights. It's very compact and comes in a tin can which makes it ubberly cute! It says on the back that you can apply it using your fingers, make up brush and sponge.
I used UDPP as the primer and colors were grabbed very well.

I think blue is the new smokey eyes now. Every blog I read there's someone who plays with blue shades of e/s on the LOTD/EOTD/FOTD. And it all happens on November 2008. So, I think girls likes to play with blue lately.
Eyeko's "Cool Eyes" is the perfect tool for that. For less than 10 bucks, you'll get 5 shades that matches all skin tones. You can get this pretty thing at the Eyeko store. And by typing in FREERUDEGIRL+E123 upon checking out, you will get two free gifts plus their ultimate FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE!!!!

Now, for more contemporary chic like I am, Eyeko's "Sexy Eyes" works perfectly. I use this everyday at my meetings, I even use this even when me & my hubby goes out to lunch and stuffs like that. This is my everyday "holy grail" of eye shadow. Same thing with the "Cool Eyes" it comes with 5 colors that you can play with however you like it.

There you go, although I haven't really got the time to post my EOTD using these lovies..

tata girls!!
